'Curved Pathways' - A journey beyond the archways, bringing memories to life through exploration in colour and texture.
Annabel Lapsys bio:
I have had a love of art from an early age and ever since I have experimented with all things creative. I am inspired by architecture and travel and find that it is often the obscure design details I notice in everyday life that fuels my imagination.
My early work possessed a mid-century modern feel and I was significantly influenced by the colour and design of this era. Later, I started experimenting with a more vibrant colour palette and complex design which I thoroughly enjoyed.
However, before long I felt the need to pull back and started exploring a more subdued approach. By arranging organic shapes strategically over the canvas, I hoped to encourage the viewer to appreciate both the overall design as well as the areas of empty space.
I enjoy placing varying shades of one colour alongside contrasting and sometimes unexpected colour combinations. I am fascinated by the way different outcomes can be created, depending on where one colour is situated to another.
Upon completion of each of my paintings, it is my desire that I have created something that will instil in the beholder a sense of calm and serenity.
For my most recent work, I am focusing on portraying experiences from my extensive European travel, whether it be the representation of an architectural style or merely conveying a memory. I am currently in the process of developing this style further.
My signature abstract forms are now starting to converge with real-world imagery, which is my first foray into the concept of bridging the gap between the imagined and the observed. I am currently in the process of developing this style further.
